About the Designer

Hi! My name is Ella. I'm a senior at the Dwight School in New York who is passionate about the crossroads between design and society, specifically how artists can transform ideas into successful products. Fashion Design is much deeper than many people understand and decisions made at every stage in the design cycle, from creation to implementation, have significant impacts on consumers and the world as a whole.

I've been designing since sixth grade, when the covid pandemic gave me time to develop my interests in design and fashion. The pandemic caused business challenges for many aspects of the fashion world, which I was interested in following. Since then, I have interacted with fashion by creating my own designs as well as cultivating my own views on the fashion world through careful reading, analysis and projects.

Welcome to my portfolio. Here you’ll find a selection of my work. Explore my projects to learn more about what I do.

My Collections

The galleries below show different collections I have designed.

Watch the slideshow or click on the images for more details!

Starry Night

This collection is inspired by the stars against a clear night sky. The collection is intended to evoke a feeling of power and awe, such as if one were to look up at the night sky and feel amazed at what they see. Individually, each design consists of red, gold, and black-colored elements, intended to contrast one another to exhibit the star design.

Walking in NYC

This collection is inspired by the fast-pace of NYC streets. The easy-to-wear pieces mix comfort with an edgy style. The garments are perfect for walking through the city or going out in the evening.

Evening Wear

Timeless and elevated, this collection is designed for moments that call for elegance. The thoughtful details create looks that feel refined and effortless, making you stand out wherever the evening unfolds.

Bird Cage - sketches

This collection is inspired by the symbolism of a bird cage, exploring what it means to be seen but not free. The light weight and flowy fabric contrasts to the cage-like corsets. The flowers are intended to show inner strength that will become powerful enough to break free from confinement.

The Act of Formation

This collection was inspired by how garments can be created through defined angles and shapes.

Educational Experience

International Baccalaureate

I'm an IB student at the Dwight School, New York. An international curriculum gives me a view on international perspectives across a many world issues. While not obvious, many of my classes have strong connections to Fashion and Management. In my extended essay on English Language and Literature, I discussed not just conventional texts, but also works such as advertisements and articles that make up the bulk of everyday reading, seeking to understand decisions made by authors and how they influence those receiving content.

FIT Precollege Design Course (Summer 2024)

This course was my first professional exposure to the fashion world. I attended two summer courses which covered design and fabric manufacture. This course allowed me to experience fashion and design from an academic standpoint. I also used the skills I'd honed to work on several personal projects.

Tiffany & Co. Shadowing Opportunity

I was able to gain real life experience via a shadowing program run by Tiffany's. I was able to meet many professionals, including designers, marketing specialists, executives, client relations experts, and even historians. I grew to realize that each role plays an important part in the design cycle. In particular, I was fascinated by Tiffany's employment of its "design archive", which in-house historians curate to inspire present designers, showing the inherent intertextuality of design.

My educational goals are heavily influenced by my experiences. I want to continue developing skills useful to my future in an environment that promotes passionate about learning. I'm looking to join a program specializing in fashion design and design management that will foster both my inner artist and working professional.
